Resonance featured the works of thirty Canadian printmaking artists at the Shengzhi Art Center in Beijing’s 798 Art District. The exhibit opened June 28 and ran through July 12, 2015.

Resonance celebrated the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and China. It was one of many cultural activities intended to underscore Canada’s commitment to the Canada–China year of people-to-people and cultural exchange.

The event was held in collaboration with the Embassy of Canada, Hunan Fine Arts Publishing House, and Shengzhi Art Center.

Curated by Wu Jiaqi of Canada, Resonance created a meaningful exchange between Canadian printmakers and the Chinese art communities.

Through the liaison of Mr. Guy Langevin, a Quebec printmaking artist and academic consultant for the exhibition, thirty contemporary printmakers’ works were shown from across Canada, including some of the most important artists working in this field.

In addition to Langevin, whose work is part of the exhibit, the opening ceremony Sunday was attended by Canadian ambassador to China Guy Saint-Jacques and Indiana University Head of Printmaking Tracy Templeton.

Due to the popularity of the exhibition Contemporary Japanese Prints at Southern Oregon University in February 2013, Collaboration–Contemporary Prints from Canada, US, and Japan was held at the Iwasaki Museum in Yokohama on August 7–18, 2013. Featuring twenty-four prominent artists from Canada, the US, and Japan, the show traveled to Nagasaki for a second exhibition at the gallery EM from August 31 to September 14. In addition, Contemporary Prints from Canada and US—a group exhibition of the seven artists from Canada and the US—was held in Tokyo on August 12–17, 2013.

This exhibition is part of the second Kulisiewicz International Print Triennial in Warsaw, IMPRINT 2011

October 14–23, 2011

Contemporary Canadian printmaking has been exhibited several times in Poland in the past few years. Not until the City of Northern Lights exhibition, however, has the Warsaw community had a chance to discover the phenomenon so commonly identified with the works of artists from Western Canada. The recognition enjoyed by the school in Edmonton is greatly attributable to Professor Walter Jule, who in the early seventies changed a little printmaking center at the University of Alberta into an international platform for exchanging ideas on printmaking and the media culture. Today, two generations of teachers who are alumni of the university share their knowledge on printmaking with the new generations of students. Liz Ingram and Sean Caulfield are recognized artists whose works have been awarded at international print competitions multiple times.

We are also going to exhibit the unforgettable works of Tracy Templeton, Daniella Schlueter, Karen Dugas, and Davida Kidd, widely recognized in Poland.

Walter Jule and Wojciech Tylbor-Kubrakiewicz
